Mathmos Lava Lamp Design

Design Classics

Several Mathmos lava lamps are now design classics regularly appearing in design books, museums, and exhibitions, read our blog on Mathmos in Museums here and see our press here.

Our innovative designs include Astro, the first lava lamp designed by our founder, Edward Craven Walker, the inventor of lava lamps, in 1963. Telstar the first rocket-shaped lava lamp, Fireflow was the first candle-powered lava lamp, and Neo was the first lava lamp tested safe for all ages.

Iconic Lava Lamps

Mathmos lava lamps are iconic, appearing in films, music videos, TV shows and millions of homes for over 60 years.

Our lava lamps remain popular with long-time fans and new generations for their timeless design, quality craftsmanship, and distinctive flow, together with our heritage of British-made production and enduring cultural appeal.
